Fiambre is the traditional meal for the #DayoftheDead in Guatemala, which takes place on November 2. But El Barrio Bar is getting a head start tonight with a platter big enough for two at their weekly Noche de Chapin, which serves authentic Mayan meals. Starts at 6 PM.
Homemade bread and pastries attracted a crowd of locals and tourists at a bread-tasting event at El Barrio Bar in October. Patricia, who bakes everything fresh daily, offered samples of a multi-grain wheat bread that makes sandwiches taste even better, a delicately-flavored citrus bread, cinnamon raisin rolls, sourdough bread and other options.
They were served with an assortment of marmalades and Patricia’s lemon curd, which is out of this world. Other jams and marmalades were provided by Eric, whose fresa and pineapple were very tasty. Pies, cookies and cakes are also available.
These range from apple pie to lemon chiffon, dark chocolate espresso cupcakes and carrot cake with cream cheese filling. You can find Patricia’s Sweet Buns at El Barrio, Humus Ya and 5th Dimension in San Pedro
just got a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence for 2014. That’s El Barrio Bar on Seventh Avenue.
Tapas Tapas opened last week on the east side of San Pedro. It’s around the corner from Casa Atitlan. Great food, drinks and people. See AtitlanSol for more news from Lake Atitlan, Guatenala.
